W0N'T LAST...HURRY

-or-

Reason 9,247 why CAN SPAM isn't working.

Deep in the gibberish below are three very good reasons why the US Can Spam law isn't worth the price of one of Michael Moore's pouches of noodles and clean underwear for slacker voters.

You see, the blocks of nonsense just down the page is the combined headers from three different emails the desk got pushing a male sexual performance pill. They're all the same ad. With the same worthless 'stop promos' button. And the same offer to make you the next 'Italian Stallion' in the bedroom with what is most likely a fake version of the much hyped drug.

But there is one difference.

They all took somewhat different routes, to the Desk's mailbox.

One SPAM email supposedly began life as a stream of electrons in Germany- Top Level Domain .de The other in the United Kingdom- .uk and the last candidate from a keyboard somewhere in Greece. One was routed through France, another seemed to have something to do with Italy.

The US anti-SPAM law didn't even slow these things down.

Currently the Desk is getting SPAM from servers in Russia (.ru domain) and Turkey (.tr) as well as some really odd ones like .tv which is Tuvalu in the South Pacific (a series of islands which total about the size of a small county with no known exports except postage stamps with pretty island girls on them and SPAM).

OK. The Desk will freely admit that the SPAMMER is probably sitting in New Jersey and is ether spoofing addresses or is using some sort of malicious code to hijack computers in Greece and Britain. And Yes, if the SPAMMER could ever be caught he should have his keyboard fed to him in small byte sized bits. But, what are the chances of that?

The Desk tried to check some of the domains out to see if any could possibly be traced back to the SPAMMER, but all that happened was that the stama.de site tried to hijack its browser and the one in Greece appeared to be a dead end unless you happened to read Greek better than the Desk does (it seemed to be a software house, but it was hard to tell). So either the SPAMMER had enslaved one of their workstations or it was just an out and out spoof. Either way, none of the sites that sent the Desk the garbage about the pills was a reputable pharmaceutical house.

Are you surprised?

Once again. WHEN YOU GET SPAM LIKE THIS. DO NOT CLICK ON THEIR LINKS. DO NOT REPLY TO THEM. DO NOT BUY ANYTHING FROM THEM. DELETE THE SPAM OR REPORT IT TO THEIR ISP'S IF YOU CAN IDENTIFY THEM.
