This one is a hit! Oh yes. Whoever wrote this one up is probably a millionaire now because there are so many gullible people on the Web who will write to the criminal that sent it: "Just to see what he has." (if you don't believe the Desk, go read the article)

Not only does this email promise you millions of dollars, it comes right out and asks for your account number and a copy of your passport or driver's license.
Talk about do it yourself identity theft!

But somebody some where must believe it and trust in the United Nations and send the scammer everything they want.
They may end up paying in advance for a cash transfer that never happens, cashing overseas checks- which then bounce- and they will be out their money and in trouble for passing bad checks, or they may just have their bank account and credit rating raped. None of which are fun things to go through.

First just a touch of debunking then the body of the email: The World Bank doesn't give away money through an email to individuals. The UN doesn't give away money, period.
Also the source email address is a known spam source and even though www.un.org is the website of the United Nations, the spam is not from them.
This same letter has been in circulation for about a year, usually from a European free email server, with some sort of variation on the named used in the scam which makes you think that perhaps it is a play on the criminal's real name. And since it is still out there, and going strong, SOMEBODY must be replying to it in some sort of glassy eyed variation of "you never know, it might just be real".
Well, and the Desk has said it before. You CAN know. It isn't real, and if you believe it, contact the Desk and it will charge you only a minimal fee for the facts in the matter.

      Moving on.

The reply-to address appears to be a viable address at 'MS Live' Hotmail in France. However, in typical MS fashion, they make reporting abuse of their system by a criminal almost impossible.
      Still, the Desk tried.

Once Again
THIS IS A SCAM! YOU WILL LOSE MONEY, YOUR IDENTITY, OR PERHAPS EVEN YOUR LIFE IF YOU CONTACT THEM!
