Dear Major League Baseball Fan:
Thank you for your recent letter.
I understand your frustration with the system and changing the economics of Major
League Baseball is one of the reasons I accepted the Commissioner's job. Baseball
has made more progress over the last four years in terms of revenue sharing and
salary restraints than ever before. This year we will transfer 165 million dollars
from the top six clubs to the bottom six clubs.
However, we do have more work to do and I will do everything I can to bring salaries
under control. Any type of salary restraint must be negotiated with the Players'
Association, which then becomes part of the Collective Bargaining Agreement. Both
sides realize that a strike is not the answer to any of Baseball's problems and we
will do everything in our power to avoid that situation.
I understand your concerns and I thank you for taking time to write to me.
Sincerely,
We can all relax and feel better now.
